Red Sox vs. Yankees series
The most important series in baseball is starting today. Ace Jon Lester (11-4 3.17 ERA ) is going against Bartolo Colon (8-6 3.30 ERA). Lester cruised in his last start, firing eight strong innings (four hits, two runs) en route to a win over the White Sox. Lester has held opponents to a .245 average in his career. At Fenway in ’11, Lester is 3-3 with a 3.86 ERA in eight starts. The Yankees stood pat at the Deadline in part because they couldn’t find anything better than what they had in Colon. It took the 38-year-old 105 pitches to get through five innings Saturday, but he limited damage with only allowing 3 runs.
I think after an amazing July (20-6) the Bosox are having ups and downs in August, to give the Yanks a bigger chance of winning.
The Yankees are perfect in August in 4 games, and are riding on a seven game winning streak.
The Red Sox have a better claim to fame. They are 8-1 against the Yankees this year.
The next games are John Lackey against C.C. Sabathia, and Freddy Garcia against Josh Beckett.
So my final thought on this series is the Yankees will win two out of three.
